Decontamination of Cr(VI) Polluted Wastewater by use of Low Cost Industrial Wastes

چکیده
experiments, for aqueous Cr(VI) solutions having low buffering capacities, over the Cr(VI) concentration range of 5 – 40 mg/L. The results showed that the initial Cr(VI) concentration significantly affects the reduction capacity of scrap iron. Maximum reduction capacity of scrap iron was observed at the beginning of the column experiments; the lower the Cr(VI) concentration, the greater the experiment duration with maximum scrap iron reduction capacity. However, due to passivation of active surface, scrap iron reduction capacity continuously decreased in time, especially after Cr(VI) breakthrough. The experimental results showed that highest reduction capacity recorded until Cr(VI) breakthrough was 22.8 mg Cr(VI)/g scrap iron, at CI = 5 mg/L, and decreased with increasing Cr(VI) concentration. In order to assure total reduction of greater Cr(VI) concentrations for a longer period of time, either the mass of scrap iron filling, or the hydraulic retention time should be increased.

Adsorption capacity of Cr (VI) onto sawdust of aspen tree and activated sawdust, was investigated in a batch system by considering the effects of various parameters like contact time, initial concentration, pH , temperature, agitation speed, absorbent dose and particle size. Cr (VI) removal is pH dependent and caused to be maximum at pH 2.0. The amounts of Cr(VI) adsorbed increased with increas...
متن کاملTreatment of Cr(VI) polluted wastewater by use of scrap iron, a cheap and locally available alternative electron source
The reduction of Cr(VI) by use of a cheap and locally available industrial waste, scrap iron, was investigated in continuous system. The experimental results showed that, at the beginning of the column experiment, Cr(VI) was not detected in column effluent, which means that it was completely reduced. The greater the pH of column influent, the lower the time period before the breakthrough of hex...

Present study dealt the removal of Cr(VI) in a tannery industry wastewater using rice husk silica powder as an adsorbent. The experimental investigations have been carried out by using rice husk silica powder for different adsorption dosage, different contact time and different pH against the initial Cr(VI) concentration of 292 mg/L. The maximum percentage removal of Cr(VI) in the tannery indust...
